HARRIERS

  • Cambridge Harriers Open and BMC Races

Well done to all club members who competed on Wednesday night. There were some excellent performances in in both the BMC and Open races. One of the highlights was a 1,2, 3 in the BMC C race with Noah Armitage-Hookes, Alfie Armitage-Hookes and Alex Elms all running personal bests. There were pb's for Flo Armitage-Hookes in the 1500m, James Gordon, Rob Shearer, Christian Poulton, Mitchell Dann and Vi Chu in the 3000m. There was also a PB for Peter Hawney in the shot putt.

After the euphoria of the first match at sutcliffe, the mens team wasbought down to earth with a bump. A combination of injuries, work committments and a motorway closure due to a road accident meant the team was left without some key players.

  • Assembly League Reminder

Just a reminder and note that the next Assembly League (Race 3) at Dulwich Park has been brought forward by a week to Thursday 6th June. Start time is 1930 and you must wear a CH club vest please. I do not believe there are changing rooms and the race start is close to the park entrance on Dulwich Common Road (A205). Nearest rail is West Dulwich (approx 1km),

I hope to see as many club runners as possible as we were a little depleted at the last race in Hackney.

  • British University Championships

Several Cambridge athletes were in action over the bank holiday weekend at the British Universities championships held at Bedford. Although the weather was kind there was the usual stiff breeze to contend with Reports Ray Daniel

The best result for the club was Caroline Ford reaching her first BUCS final. Cruising through her heat she ran a good tactical race to reach the final, but came up against a strong field in the final and finished in 8th place in 2m 14.2 marginally slower than her seasons best achieved in the semi.

Melissa Owosu-Ansah ran two decent 400s achieving virtually the same time of 59.7 in both heat and semi. Charlotte Daniel wasn’t so fortunate and found herself in a tough heat running 63.9. the same story was in the 200m where she ran 28.6.
