Date started running: October 1972
Events: Road, cross country and trail running
Short biog: Joined Cambridge Harriers far too long ago and am still chasing pbs for road race distances I should have been running in my late 20's (too busy with work then). Really enjoy the friendships developed over the years as new people join the club, and still get a huge amount of enjoyment from runnig in Joydens Wood during the summer months.
Inspiration: John Walker, Steve Ovett, and Roger Mills
Personal bests:
5000m (track): 17:53:00, Sutcliffe Park, May 2003
10km (road): 37:37, Beckenham, May 2002
10 miles: 1:01:42, Brugge, March 2008
Half-marathon: 1:22:18, Paddock Wood, March 2003
Marathon: 3:04:56, London, April 2004
Favourite race and why: Probably the New York Marathon in 2007 because the atmosphere before, during and after the race was fantastic (although the London Marathon course still takes some beating), closely followed by an 800m school championship race in 1978 (grass track in Bexleyheath) when I got the timing just right to do a `Seb Coe kick` off the final bend to take the race (and have the whole school shouting for my house colours).
Career highlights: Finishing the London Marathon is always a highlight (or is it relief) and being talked into running the Ben Nevis Fell race was pretty special.
Injuries: Touch wood, only plantia fascia if I do not stretch enough, although I have managed to break both ankles whilst running (once in Joydens Wood and had to limp back to the clubhouse).
Career ambition
Stay fit and healthy for a few more seasons of cross country.....
Action shot: Graham competing in one of his favourite races - New York Marathon 2007.
