I would like to send a big thank you to LES who was so encouraging at the BEACHY HEAD MARATHON. I run with TRING RC so he called me 'Tring' and I finished in 5.01 - 29 minutes quicker than last year. He was great fun and I really enjoyed the run. Please could anyone who reads this pass the message on to him, thanks. Jane

Jadwiga Dominek and I want to thank Cambridge Harriers for organising a smashing Sunday race which we both throughly enjoyed; from the gun, fired by a starter who, though a veteran would, I'm sure, have beaten us by a country mile, to the finish where even the youngest stragglers were assured of a fine reception. Wonderful spring weather added to an event that was thoughtfully run and truly encouraging for young competitors. Your team deserve to know how much the event was appreciated by two unattached runners - we'll be back! With all good wishes, Simon Greaves, Clapham, London SW

A few years' ago I visited Sutcliffe Park, Eltham, as a spectator to watch Cambridge Harriers AC compete in the Southern League and thoroughly enjoyed the events. However, I have been unable so far to gain access to this summer's (2009) timetable because of some Warranty dialoge which impedes me from viewing CHAC timetable. This is a great disappointment as I would have liked to have visited you at Sutcliffe Park and supported your club so where do I go from here?
As a by-the-by, during the late 1950s my locally-based senior school used to hold its Sports Day at Sutcliffe Park so I have many happy memories of athletics and the track. My sports teacher was an English B international miler. It was because of his tuition I had a terrific Western Role in the High Jump but could not get the height. I finished third in the Woolwich Schools 220 yards sprint; and was jumping erractically between 16 & 23 ft in the long jump.
Now I am approaching retirement I would have liked to have come along to support CHAC at Sutfliffe Park during the summer months, but I unfortuntely gain access to your fixture list to find out the relevant days. Any advice and assistance would be greatly appreciated.

I was a junior member of the club in the 1960's, and as a first year senior in 1968 I was the club 1-mile champion. Later that year my family moved to New Zealand. In 1970 I attended university in California, where I ran a 4min 2sec mile and 3min 41sec 1,500 m, and in 1973 won the US indoor 2-mile title. During the 1970's a lived and worked in Sweden and ran for them in the 1979 World Cross Country Champs before moving back to New Zealand.
I was fortunate that Cambridge Harriers ran a schools cross country race every year, and that was my introduction to a great club and the sport of athletics. I'm pleased to see your webpage, many familiar names from the past. Dave Maynard, Joan Page, Marilyn Neufville, Derek & Marlow Hadler, Brian Boulton and "El Presidente" Keith Penny.
I was fortunate to have trained and raced with John Walker, Dick Quax and others. Arthur Lydiard became a personal friend (use to coach my wife Heather, silver medallist at 3,000m in 1978 Commonwealth Games), and they all agree that coaching at the club level is where the next generation of top runners will come from.
So I remember where I started at the Cambridge Harriers School Cross Country Champs and hope the club continues to grow and prosper.

Well done to all Cambridge Harriers who took part in the London Marathon on Sunday. A fantastic day for the club both on the road and to those who helped with the organisation.

I have a soft spot for Cambridge Harriers. During 1958 ,when I was aged 14, I was at my senior school based in Eltham and jumping between 16 & 23 ft in the Long Jump. My sports master wanted be to take up athletics and I wanted to join CH, but my idiot mother vetoed that because she wanted me to follow my elder brother into cycling in which I had no interest. and so I imploded. It may well be that I would not have made an athlete, but I would have liked to have tried. Now I am an old foggie who can not run for a bus. However, I still think of CH with kindness and would have liked to support CH at its meetings in Sutcliffe Park.

Great site. However, what is missing is the listing of Cambridge Harriers summer fixtures at Sutcliffe Park, Eltham. For example, during the summer of 2004 and 2005 I used to visit the track in Sutcliffe Park to summer CH, but I missed out last year because of the lack of listings - how sad! It looks like I am going to miss out again this season too!
