SLOW Boxhill fell

This year conditions under foot were more difficult than usual due to the recent snow and rain. Some of the steep muddy descents at times were quite difficult resulting in a number of spectacular falls.

One of the unlucky one's to go for a tumble on one of the descents was Ian Marshall. Only a mile into the race he bumped into another competitor whilst descending the first of many steep hills. This was enough to put Ian off balance and to hit the ground with a bang.

Despite hurting his shoulder badly and sustaining many cuts from the brambles he landed in, Ian bravely ran on to complete the course. It was only after a visit to the hospital that it was discovered Ian had broken his collar bone.

For the rest of the club's competitors things went without any mishaps. First to finish was Paul Kent followed closely by Alex Hall. Chris Rogers was competing in his first Box Hill and was next to finish for the club. Dave Tull, followed by Ian and then Mark Newell were the final finishers.

Results

59 Paul Kent 66:03

63 Alex Hall 66:41

136 Chris Rogers 75:59

145 Dave Tull 77:30

152 Ian Marshall 79:16

173 Mark Newell 83:56

This week in history...

A new feature where we look at club news from years gone by.

Holden Leads the way in Kent Championships

1950 - "IN the Kent Championships at Gravesend, the juniors did well to win by 18 points to Blackheath's 34. This win was expected as their performance to date has been very good.

Many thought that Dennis Holden could win the individual championship, but he was beaten by the experienced runner, namely P Blackiston, Kent Junior Mile champion and record holder.

The scroing four were D Holden 1, D Hoile 2, C Fromings 6 and C Levett 9."

SEAA Indoor Champs

Cambridge Harriers came away with a full set of medals from last weekend’s South of England Indoor Championship.

David Bolarinwa opened his indoor season with a comfortable win over 200m in 22.34 on the Saturday and followed that up with a second gold in the 60m the next day winning with a time of 6.87.

Anesa Wanogho added a silver to the club’s haul with a putt of 12.20 in the Under 20 women’s shot putt.
