Racy Lacy makes amends with PB

Kent 10,000m Championship

Dean Lacy made up for his disappointment at the Southern Championships at the weekend by becoming the Kent 10,000m Champion with a storming run on Wednesday night.

On a glorious evening at Norman Park, Lacy strode to victory gaining a personal best of 31:39 to clinch the championship.

Martin Hawkins was one of four Cambridge veterans to gain medals too. Martin was very pleased pleased with his silver in the V40s with a time of 39.48

British Milers Club / Cambridge Harriers Open

The highlight forCambridge Harriers in this meeting was a victory for Andrew Sherridan in the 1500m. Continuing his good run of form, he came home in 3:59.8.

Rob Jackaman gave it his all to break the 2 minute mark in the 800m at Sutcliffe Park on Wednesday night.

Pushing hard and reaching halfway in 56 seconds, he reached the finish in two minutes dead. Surely his goal of a sub two minute 800m will be achieved before the end of the season.

Meanwhile in the same race, Dave Reader gained fourth with a seasons best of 1:59.1.

In the second 800m race, Rob McDonald won with a personal best of 2:03.6.

Upon return from injury, James Collis had a tough run through the second half of the 800m to clock a time of 2:24, a time in which he can and will certainly improve upon.

Indipendent Schools Association Finals

Sophie Parkes competed in the ISA (Independent Schools Association) National Finals in Birmingham on Wednesday.

After achieving a PB of half a meter in the shott, Sophie then went on to win the Junior Girls 800m in a close and exciting race with another PB, 2.23.7. The achievement is all the more impressive as Sophie was one of the younger competitors being in year 8, however her determination saw her through to the line.

Joydens Wood 5km GP, race 1

It's that time of year again for Dartford Road Runners enchanting, but tough three race 5km series through Joyden's Wood.

In a race where the top positions were dominated by the host club, Mark Penny ran well to gain third place, followed shortly after by Graham Maynard in 12th place.

Results are to be published shortly, but other Cambridge Harriers tackling the hilly race with the tough uphill finish included Keith Tanner, Rosa Sampson-Geroski, Peter , Dave Tull, Jo Winn-Smith and Alex Hall, who ran the course but arrived late for the start due to heavy traffic.

Dulwich Runners 5k

Gerti Hoffman and Carolyn Jacki represented Cambridge Harriers at the Dulwich Runners 5km, finshing in 27:31 and 30:14 respectively.

Orpington 10k

Three Cambridge Harriers made the short journey to Orpington in fine weather for the Orpington 10k.

Sarah Rawlinson was the first Harrier to finish in 46:34 follwed by Rosa Sampson-Geroski in 50:53 and then Doug Cullern in 55:33.

Devon Beer run

Several Cambridge Harriers celebrated the summer sulstice with the traditional beer run in Devon.

A mainstay in the calendar for years, this would be the first year that the event was not officially organised by Axe Valley Runners. However this didn't deter 15 or so Cambridge Harriers, Portsmouth Joggers and several others dressing up for a leisurely run with a few "refreshment" stops.

Dressed as pirates and joined by the ladies of Portsmouth dressed as sailors, the intrepid band set off from the Rat & Parrot in Seaton at 12:17 (as is the case on mid summers day every year) to take in some larks in a river, wonderful pubs in the country side and much dancing at a beer festival.

Great fun was had by all and a return next year will be on the cards again. The only question remains, what will be the fancy dress for summer 2010?
