Lacy strides again to Meridian victory

A glorious, if chilly morning greeted the runners at greenwich Park in this years Greenwich Meridian 10km.

Jermain Mayes of Kent A.C. was the first runner to cross the Meridian line, but was soon overtaken by Dean lacy who stretched out a sizeable lead on the first lap.

Dean continued his recent good form to win the race from Mays, for a second year in a row, by 46 seconds in a time of 31:50.

Wojciech Gajny of Notts A.C. was the thrid man home in 32:51.

The first woman to finish was Sutcliffe Park regular Elaine Murty in a time of 36:49. Claire Elms of Dulwich had to settle for seconds place this year in 37:17 while Jenny Lundgren of Thameside runners was third in 38:08.

Of the other Cambridge Harriers that competed, Mark Penny ran well to finish 11th in 35:56.

Once again a big thank you must go to all those who turned out to marshall the course and provide help and especially to Paul Lewis and Les Wright for their organisation for another year.

  1. A very big thank you for a very well organised and stewarded event. This was my first run and I really enjoyed the experience, better still the charity I ran for (the Jimmy Mizen Foundation) raised lots of needed sponsorship. Well done and looking forward to next years event, and hopefully beating this years time.

  2. I totally agreed. I found it really confusing and didn't have a clue at any point how many miles/ kms I had run and if I the distance refered to the first or second time I passed the same sign. The signs needed to be clearly marked 'Passing for 1st time - you've done 2k. Passing for 2nd time - 4km. Great day though!

  3. Hello - Thanks for arranging this event once again. I have not run it since 2007 so was pleased to have sorted out my back problem sufficiently to take part. I also appreciate the age categories, as I am getting on a bit!

I found the signs for the distance very confusing and wonder if you could think about this. It isn't clear if the number refers to miles or kilometers, not which lap they refer to, where the course repeats the route. The person I ran next to also had the same problem so I don't think I was having a senior moment!

Also I and a few others nearly collided with pedestrians on occasion. Is it possible to have more separation between the running course and the pedestrian routes?

    Thanks again.
