Women continue good Cambridge form

This weekend, Cambridge Harriers competed National Junior League, Southern Women's League and the Triple T Fell Running compeition.

National Junior League

A slightly depleted squad were 4th overall, stronger squads for the rest of the season will see Cambridge finish third behind the big two of Tonbridge and Medway & Maidstone.

Best performances for the club came from Craig Lacy and Alisdair Macdonald in the Javelin with respective throw of 48.14 and 38.63m to win both A & B string which was watch by the former world record holder Steve Backley.

 Stefan Mitchell easily won the 100m in 11.6 and was narrowly beaten on the line by M&M Michael Baker both were credited with 23.2s Kate Laidlow easily won the 400m in 58.9 and gave two solid performances in both relays. Jessica Clark ran encouragingly in the sprint hurdles (16.4s) and was only beaten as she over-stride the last couple of hurdles.

Andrew Sheridan opened his season campaign with pbs in 3000m (9:19.2) and 1500m (4:20.5) all in the space of just over an hour. Sam Murphy also ran a pb in the 1500 (4:10.1) for 3rd in the A race, Liam Corcoran also pb in the 2000sc with a time of 7:05.3

Southern Womens' League

The women’ team nearly got off to a winning start in their first match of the track season at Sutton Arena. They led Aldershot, Belgrave and Dartford for most of the afternoon before succumbing to a late charge by Aldershot. There were however a number of excellent performances which boads well for the rest of the season

Xanine Powell made a welcome return to competition winning the 100m in 12.4 and the Shot Putt with 9.24. Clare Elms was dominant in the middle distance events winning the 800, 3000 and taking second in the 1500. In the 800 she was well backed up by Caroline Ford who opened her season with a 2.27.3 time whilst Ros Tabor backed Clare up in both the 3k and the 1500.

Tamara Ashaye picked up good points in the 400 Hurdles with a gutsy 72.3 for second place and then latter on again ran well to take second in the B String 200. Kate Laidlow won the A string 200 in 26.0 just 0.1 outside her personal best and also won the B string 100.

In the field Helen Daniel threw over 30 m to win the A sting Discus and was ably backed up by Danielle Phillips who won the B String with 21.65. Rachel Ummuna also won the A string Long Jump with a leap of 4.90
