Lacy assembles debut victory
6 April 2008
Assembly League
Dean Lacy made a surprise debut for his first Assembly League run on 3rd April. Despite getting slightly lost on the twisty course around the houses at Beckenham, Dean easily pulled away from the field once he knew where the finish was.
Rob Jackaman benefited from his marathon training by taking a solid third place. The team races are always hotly contested and the Senior Men’s team could only manage fourth place with Victoria Park Harriers taking the top spot.
Clare Gibson was second place in the Senior Women’s race behind Clare Elms running for Dulwich Runners (second claim Cambridge Harrier).
It was good to see Steve Richards, Steve Brown and Mick Simmons also making their debuts at the Assembly League. Keith Penny ran a solid race in his first outing as our new Club President.
As the events get more popular, over 200 runners finished the race with one of the biggest turn-outs for Cambridge Harriers.
Paris Marathon
A few Cambridge Harriers took the short hop across the water for the Paris Marathon. Lucy Hine reports joyous scenes from Paris.
Helen Guest brought home the Cambridge Harriers ladies with her own ultra special sub 4hr PB. Hubby and first time marathoner Steve also ran sub 4 and can't stop smiling at his performance.
Maria MacDonald also smashed her own PB and still reckons she should be able to go just a little bit faster on her marathon, with a time of 4:19:57 .
Stephanie Dungate and Jane Phelps brought each other home with Jane crashing through the all important five hour mark to snatch a new PB.
But first CH home was the one and only Keith Dungate (aka 'Gel Boy') running his first marathon since hitting the big '6-0' and notching up one of his fastest times to date, 3:31:27.
Medway & Maidstone Open Meeting
This event took place at the weekend, but we await results.
And finally...
Gerard McCann took this pictures of the "Baby squad" at 7.30 am on Sunday, prior to setting off for the final pre London 12 miler, to show what a hardy bunch us Cambridge Harriers are when faced with extreme conditions!
